March 26, 2024, Columbus, OH – Points 2 Success (P2S), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing minority youth athletes with a platform to better navigate through underrepresented sports, is pleased to announce the completion of their first initiative with Driving Park Community Center in Columbus on March 26. This event provided approximately 60 drawstring bags, backpacks, t-shirts, and 13 pairs of cleats for children participating the youth sports program at Driving Park. This initiative marks the beginning an ongoing project that will provide equipment for youth athletes at Driving Park.
In addition to providing equipment, P2S also supports parents/guardians with educational resources to nurture their children’s athletic goals. P2S Program Director, Khyla Porter, actively engages with youth and their parents/guardians to foster success and growth within sports. This support enhances the athletic journey and promotes well-being within underrepresented sports allowing young athletes to receive training and player development. These valuable life experiences not only help young athletes now, but also later in life as they pursue postsecondary education and career opportunities.
“Points 2 Success is excited to partner with Driving Park Community Center to provide young athletes with the gear they need to succeed,” said Samual Porter, Executive Director of P2S. “I’ve been around youth sports for well over 20 years and watching kids succeed is always a joy to me. Even outside of our mission, we want to impact the lives of these families and athletes by engaging and helping them navigate through these experiences by having conversations, providing advice, or the financial assistance needed to be able to compete!”
“We look forward to working on more initiatives with P2S to supply kids with the necessary equipment to participate in our sports programs,” said Millard Morgan, Assistant Director of Driving Park. “The thing I love about Driving Park and what I think makes us unique is that we offer a plethora of programs for our youth and also seniors. For our youth, we offer sports programs year round. In fact, some parents will have their kids enrolled in three sports at once.”
Driving Park Community Center youth athletic programs include a variety of options for children ages six to fourteen including soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, flag football, and volleyball. These programs are offered year round. To view available program schedules, please visit the Driving Park Community Center website.
